While the basic principles of niche marketing remains the same, finding the most effective ways of putting those principles into action is like a moving target.
No doubt the economy has sifted out the wanna-be marketers, ran the want-to-get-rich quick crowd away and kick most of the quick buck speculators to the curb. As a result of the economy and tough competition the more serious and educated marketers are left. That suits us just fine. Why? Because we're dedicated to providing the kind of serious take-no-prisoners information only serious niche marketers would understand and benefit the most from.
Here's the top 3 questions on niche marketing this month. Note: The questions have been edited for the purpose of brevity and clarity.
1. What's The Most Important Factor When Considering A Niche Market?
While not knowing your specific situation, experience, knowledge, investment and skills you possess. Here's a basic answer. All things being equal, the first thing to consider when researching a niche market is profitability or how much money is in the market you're targeting.
How many buyers are in the market. For example, it does little or no good to target a market that has little or no buyers for what you plan to sell. The more buyers the better, that's where the money is. Why? Because the more money that's spent in a specific niche the less buyers you need to make a profit.
Be cautious of going after a niche market because you feel comfortable, at ease or feel it's convenient. That niche strategy makes sense if the market has an abundance of buyers, if not keep looking.
2. What Are Factors To Consider If My Niche Marketing Is Missing My Sales Goals?
Based on my experience these are the items to consider.
- Did you target the right demographics for your product?
For example is your market full of buyers or lookers? Have they spent that much money on a product or service like yours before?
- Did you hit them with your biggest benefit at the beginning?
- Did you separate yourself from the competition with enough unique benefits?
While other factors may need to be considered these are the top 3 areas to consider first that many marketers overlook.
3. What's The Best Ways To Separate Myself From The Competition?
There are dozens of ways that work. But if I had to choose one it would be to find out what the top 3 competitors above you don't like doing and do it. I call this the principle of "yucky". For example, if the businesses in your industry hate to open on weekends you do it. If they don't offer home deliveries, you do it.
If they don't offer express service for a nominal fee, you do it. These are just examples, but the key is to find out what the competition hates to do, can't do as good as you and find a way to provide it to your customers. Applying this technique will instantly separate you from the competition.
Here's The Bad News: As the economy remains sluggish, competition will get tougher, more crowded and expensive, especially if you're in a competitive industry. Are you ready?
